Looking at where to put fret marker dots on my first. It is a small parlor, 12 fret, Antes plan. The drawing shows some locations, but I cam curious - is there a standard for guitars?

The drawing calls for:

2@5th
1@7th
2@9th

I had thought to put one at 3, 5, 7, then what? My mandolin has the next one at 10, my old guitar has the next at 9. And which ones get doubled? My plan doesn't show a marker at the 12th, which is at the body joint. Is it a good idea to put one there?

I was thinking about a single at 3, 5, 9, and doubles at 7 and 12. Just curious as to what others are doing, including those who have built to this plan or built other small 12 fret guitars. I want mine to be eye catching, but in a good way!

Thanks,

i prefer 3, 5, 7, 9, double at 12, 15, 17, 19......but thats because 99% of solid body axes are marked that way.
mandolins are tuned to 5ths so that changes things. i've played guitars with markers at the ten and it really screws me up. so do double dots at any position other than 12 and 24....of course others will chime in and say "real guitar players don't use markers" yadda yadda, but whatever
